HOLY MONASTERY OF THE HOLY PRECURSOR OF NIKISIANI
At an altitude of approximately 400 meters at the foot of the verdant Mount Pangaion and near the beautiful and famous commune of Nikisiani, with its many picturesque chapels and the famous and delicious sarmadakia, stands imposingly and in a prominent position, in front of the road leading to Panagia Eikosiphinissa, the male Monastery of the Holy Forerunner, which constitutes the panorama of the surrounding area, as the view towards Mount Pangaion, the plain and all neighboring communes is unique and beyond all expectations. It is also the only active male Monastery of our Holy Metropolis of Eleftheroupolis, but also in general of the entire region around Mount Pangaion, since the other Monasteries at a distance of many kilometers are filled by female brotherhoods.
Today, a three-member entourage resides in the Monastery with the blessing and Patriarchal wishes of our Most Reverend Pastor, Mr. Chrysostomos.
The Monasteries have been the Bastions of the Church since ancient times and the institution of monasticism is theocratic, is based on the Holy Scripture, is founded on the immense ascetic struggles of the holy Fathers and is inextricably linked to the life of the Church. They carry out a continuous and uninterrupted and daily internal mission in the world, not only on Sundays, but also daily as spiritual harbors, awaiting with open gates the devout Christians, the suffering and despairing from the problems of life, those who seek a word of consolation and supplication, a word of spiritual benefit and spiritual rest for their souls.
The world perceives the enormous offering and spiritual benefit that flows from the Monasteries and is drawn to them like the deer to the springs of water.
This love of the world that comes to the Monastery of the Holy Forerunner gives us strength to continue our struggle with desire and fervent zeal, so that by the Grace of God this Holy Monastery may emerge and flourish spiritually once again, so that it may become a spiritual harbor, a beacon of guidance and a place of unceasing prayer and worship of the Holy Triune God.
Therefore, we call and beg and invite all the monk-friendly and devout pilgrims, the pious Christians and all the brothers in Christ, to be pleased and join their forces with us and become supporters and helpers in our struggle, so that we may make a Great Pillar of the Orthodox Faith, of our Metropolis and of the Church, this unique Holy and Venerable Monastery of the Holy Forerunner of Nikisiani, in the Pangaion area.
